Free, Peer-led Workouts for Men in Boston
Did you know? People who exercise as part of a community are more likely to stick to exercising. This is a proven fact with F3 as it has caught fire with men across the nation. If you haven't done so already, check out our home page or learn more to find out about who we are and what we do. If you're still with us, keep reading to get a sense of what where we meet and what to expect before, during, and after of your first workout.
We meet at the highlighted parking lot outside of Harvard Stadium on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:15 am and Saturday at 6:00 am. Address: 79 North Harvard St, Boston, MA
Yes, it's early, but it's worth it! Your future self will thank you and you'll get 1% better just for showing up. Embrace the suck!
Pick a workout, commit and show up. Use our Locations page to find the workout suits you. They are early morning workouts so it will take some intentionality to get out of bed and show up! It'll be worth it!
Let us know if you're coming or don't...there's no requirement. We just want you to show up and see what it's all about.
Set a reminder, alarm, wake-up call, whatever it takes. That first workout comes quickly and it comes EARLY. Don't let this opportunity slip through the cracks.
Read the disclaimer. This is some legalese that basically says everyone is out there of their own free will, doing their best, and neither F3 nor anyone else is liable for injury (don't quote me on that).
Consider getting a pair of gloves. It's by no means required, but since we do a lot of pushups and the like on whatever surface is available (like concrete and asphalt) some people like to wear gloves during the workout.
Bonus points. You'll find out very quickly that in F3 we have our mini-language. There's a special name for everything. For instance, my favorite, "fartsacking" is when you stay under the covers instead of getting up and working out. If you want to get ahead of the curve check out our lexicon for some common F3 terms.
Dress for the weather. Layers are key, especially when it's cold.
Get some fuel (light breakfast). Chug some water and maybe eat a banana prior.
Show up a couple of minutes early. Just a couple. Introduce yourself and see if there are any special instructions for that day.
HEADS UP: Everyone will call you FNG. This stands for Friendly New Guy. Everyone at F3 has a nickname, but you don't get it until after your second workout. So until you get your own F3 name, you'll go by FNG.
Modify as needed. This is one of the most important ones. Especially if you're new to working out, some of the exercises may be above your ability. That's fine, embrace it, and be ok with it, no one is judging your physical ability. Do fewer reps, do push-ups from your knees, take a break. We want you to push yourself so you can grow, but not so far that you break. Try and find a happy middle ground where you feel challenged enough to want to come back.
Get your F3 name after your second workout. At the end of a workout, everyone will circle up. We ask that you tell us a little bit about yourself and maybe a funny or embarrassing story that you could repeat in front of mixed company. From there the group will give you an F3 name that you're forever know by. For example, in Boston, we have guys with names like Yuke, Grapevine, Miles Davis, Country Gentleman, Bada Bing, Pickles, Nature Boy, Jello, Frozen, and Princess...they all have stories behind them ;-)
Some workout groups go out to coffee after the workout. This is one of the best parts of F3; getting to know the other F3 guys.
